IKEA’S New Pieces Are So Good They Don’t Need To Be Hacked

Full disclosure, Emily had a really great design post planned for you today but y’all, it’s been VERY busy with basically two weeks of shoots lined up (one might include some river house reveals but shhh! :)) and she understandably needed to postpone. Of course, we didn’t want to leave you without a post so we decided I’d write this one. Here’s the story – I was on Instagram the other day when I was fed an ad from IKEA. Normally, I would scroll past but I was pleasantly surprised by the pieces I saw! IKEA has always had great options (we’ve used them for countless projects) but I just feel like they are really nailing recently. So here are my favorite NEW pieces that I love and have no need to hack:)

First up, let’s talk rattan because their offerings are currently real good…

FRYKSÅS Cabinet | BILLY Cabinet

Cabinets anyone? This first all-rattan cabinet was the one that initially caught my eye. It’s perfect for a minimal neutral-toned home but also would be an awesome grounding piece in a really colorful space. Plus, texture for days! Then it’s like IKEA saw all of the DIY hackers and thought, “Let’s make this easier for them” and just installed caned doors themselves. The BILLY is a beloved IKEA staple that now comes in even more different sizes and configurations with these caned door fronts. This one also comes in another color too.

FRYKSÅS Desk | FRYKSÅS Storage Cart | SALNÖ Chair

See! So many good rattan options! I really love this simple but very special writing desk. But if you still want something practical but a bit more mobile then check out this storage cart. Even the wheels have a wood veneer! This could easily be a cute desk cart, bathroom shelf, or even a nightstand. The possibilities are endless! And yes! They have a new cool, rattan chair for under $100 each. It is recommended for indoor use only but it would look cute in any room.

GRÅMÖRT Tray | FRYKSÅS Wall shelf

But maybe just a little rattan accent is all you need! Tell me how cute this tray is at first glance and then tell me how awesome it is when you find out it’s 28″x11″…what?! That’s a BIG tray which isn’t easy to find and for only $15. WILD!! Then this little shelf is also really sweet and could truly work in almost any room. I love the idea of getting like 4 and stacking them on top of each other on your wall. Just an idea:) 0

UTSÅDD Cat house | UTSÅDD Scratching Board | UTSÅDD Dog bed

Finally (in the rattan category), IKEA is killing it in the animal decor game. How great are these beds and that scratcher?! The dog bed is for a smaller dog but they have a surprising amount of cute pet decor and toys. Including cushions🙂

KALLAX Shelf unit | DYVLINGE Swivel Chair

Now onto some color! Well mostly green:) I think that dark green glossy cabinet is so awesome. It’s modern and cool but not too in your face or bright! Plus, you can place it vertically or horizontally. We love options! But if you do love a brighter green, I can’t get enough of this accent swivel chair. It’s giving MCM in 2024 and that corduroy is so fun. It does come in a dark grey if that’s more your speed.

GULLIVER Crib | HEMNES Daybed

So while I love the idea of keeping large furniture pieces neutral and then bringing in color through decor, for a kid’s room, BRING ON THE COLOR. This convertible crib is in that same happy green as the swivel chair and I can’t get enough. No, need to DIY your crib a fun color when IKEA has done it for you. Same goes for this daybed. This yellow is very cheerful but what’s even better is that this daybed can act as a twin (as is) or the bottom can pull out and a double mattress will happily fit. Oh, and those are real drawers for actual storage! But don’t worry, if yellow isn’t for you this piece comes in three neutral colors too.

NISSAFORS Utility cart | HOLMERUD Side Table | MITTZON Acoustic Screen

Onto the neutral-toned pieces (which I also love). This utility cart comes in a few different colors but I really love this beige tone. It’s chic and works with so many color palettes. What I also love is how IKEA made this “side table” but in all of the photos, it’s used as a sofa table (that can even wrap around). I think it looks sick!! 1000/10. Then you may be wondering why I chose an acoustic screen for one of my favorite pieces and I’ll tell you why. First off, it would be great to help divide a space (office or otherwise) and you could easily use them as mood boards or art displays. How cool would that look in the right space?!

BRÖGGAN Goblet | HÖSTAGILLE Side Plates | TESAMMANS Glasses

IKEA always has good tabletop pieces and they still do as shown above. My need for those goblets is almost too much for my heart to handle. The shape is so so good!! And if you are a person who loves color, these side plates are such a sweet and easy breezy what to add in more. Speaking of color, these glasses are perfect. I don’t think I need to say more.

HÄCKPOPPEL Decorative Bowl | VISSLAÅN Boxes with Lids

When I see a piece like this decorative bowl at IKEA, I am so impressed. It feels like a fun “risk” but is also something at a higher-end store that would easily be $125…not $20. Big fan! Then on a different note, I just love these storage boxes! They are cool and pretty and are great for bathroom or desk drawers.

NÖDMAST LED Portable Lamp | TESAMMANS Pendant Lamp Shade | BLÅSVERK Table Lamp

Onto my favorite category – LIGHTING! I think my love of lamps has been well-documented so believe me when I saw I really love these IKEA options. The color combo of that little portable cutie is perfect. And do you see in the styled photo above that the shade tilts?! 10/10. Then if you are like me that three-tiered pendant lampshade stopped me in my tracks. Vintage-inspired, great colors, and wildly cool. No notes. Oh, and want a pop of yellow in your home? Look no further than this extremely sick lamp. I love the style and the fact that it gives off ambient light. What a win. It also comes in two other colors!

LERGRYN Knitted Lamp Shade | RORKULT Wall Lamp

But if you are a neutral color lover, these are my two absolute favorites. Let’s start with this KNITTED lampshade. I’m sorry that is too cool. I’m in love with how it looks in the styled photo. The soft texture is insane and that warm glow is perfect. Then, I see you IKEA wanting to get on the Murano glass trend train with this wall sconce. Of course, this lamp is not made out of Murano glass but it’s so pretty, affordable, and gives off the vintage style I personally love most. Oh, and it’s a plug-in!!

SANNAHED Frame | RÖDALM Frame

As someone who just needed to get a piece of art framed (it was a custom size…beware of the vintage art! ;)) finding good, affordable frames is everything. We have always loved the IKEA RIBBA series, but let me tell you that these two new collections are putting up a fight. That tone of oak is so freaking pretty! I love the square option but the rectangle frame is also pretty perfect. But if you want to have a little fun, I am kinda obsessed with the thin red frame. It’s unexpected but with the right art would look truly amazing.

TONSTAD Side Table | TESAMMANS Side Table | BERGMUND Chair with Long Cover

WAIT! There are actually three more pieces of furniture I wanted to highlight. This dark brown side table/nightstand looks way more expensive than it is. It’s simple but the shape and width are great. Then on the opposite vibe, what side table is more fun than this one? The two-tone color is playful but not overwhelming and it’s a storage table too! What’s not to love? But maybe you want to shake up your dinner table and these striped slipcovered chairs are your answer. They are graphic but also classic and I just think they are so cool. Plus, for $135 that’s not terrible these days for actually special-looking dining chairs.

Well, that’s it from me today! Hope it was fun and if I inspired a weekend IKEA trip…I’m sending love and strength;)

Love you, mean it.
