A Renovator’s Guide to Cyber Monday (Where to Save On Fixtures, Appliances, & More)

Hey, renovators – this one is for you. Here’s the deal: I know what it’s like to be knee-deep in a remodel, especially during this time of year. Budgets grow unexpectedly. Long shipping times spiral into installation delays. Sometimes it feels like a Sisyphean task – like you’ll be living in a construction zone until the end of time. You’re surrounded by discounts – discounts on furniture; discounts on decor; discounts on everything OTHER than the components you need to finish your home – it all adds up.

But get this: it doesn’t have to be this way. What if I told you that you that this Cyber Monday, you could score up to 80% off everything from timeless kitchen cabinets and fresh vanities to cast-iron tubs and farmhouse sinks? But wait, there’s more: what if I told you that you could score up to 80% off AND you could sweeten the deal with fast, free shipping? Because, friends – IT IS POSSIBLE. To that end, we wanted to share a handy renovator’s guide to making the most of Wayfair’s Cyber Monday sale – are you ready to save some dough?

Vanities

You may recall that we turned to Wayfair when sourcing a vanity for this budget-friendly basement bathroom remodel. When un-fun tasks (waterproofing, floor leveling, and duct moving) ate up most of the renovation budget for this space, we needed to get creative with our fixtures and finishes. Part of our cost-saving strategy was to go with ready-made fixtures instead of doing the custom route. We picked a deep navy vanity that came with a Carrera marble top and had much-needed storage…both open and closed. If you love this look, I’d recommend checking out this 42″ vanity – it has an identical look, but with a slightly larger profile that offers a bit more storage and counter space. Did I mention it’s also more than 50% off?

Tubs

This freestanding cast iron tub by Kohler was the piece de resistance of the Portland Project’s primary bathroom. Now, get this: the EXACT SAME TUB is now 25% off – with fast shipping, to boot – so you can have your new soaking spot installed by Christmas. Not feeling the Victorian look? No problem – there’s way more where that came from.

Sinks

My brother responded HARD to this antique-style sink and all but demanded that it go into his house. This is where the mash-up of contemporary and vintage/traditional started coming into play – which at times has confused me but it’s also what makes a home feel more custom. The surprise quirk of this sink with black-turned legs is exciting. I LOVE how it looks and more importantly, love that my brother loves a design element so passionately. There’s tons of space for rinsing laundry, soaking plants, or even stashing those overflow dishes while hosting. And yes, you guessed it – she’s 25% off today.

Appliances

You don’t need to match your appliances, but it’s great if you’re looking for a uniform look (or if you have a tried-and-true brand preference). Wayfair has a fully-stocked appliance selection that rivals (or even surpasses) many hardware-specific stores, and a nationwide distribution network that can get you the appliances you need fast (like, before your next holiday dinner – that fast). LG? Samsung? GE? Bosch? Kenmore? Café? Frigidaire? ZLINE? SMEG? Whatever your preference, it’s likely on sale RIGHT NOW.

Cabinets

When Velinda needed to source budget-friendly cabinets for her DIY kitchen renovation, she saved on shipping costs by schlepping unassembled cabinet pieces from a warehouse and back to her home in a tiny car, piece by piece. It was time-intensive and laborious. If she were to do it all again, though, Velinda may have chosen to have ready-to-assemble cabinets shipped directly to her home – a bank of Shaker cabinets, like the one seen above, would’ve run her just over $1,000. Can you believe it?!

Tile

When Arlyn moved into a new rental with cherry cabinets, a difficult-to-match countertop, and a non-existent backsplash, she unified the space with a genius peel-and-stick tile. If you’re saving up for your dream tile, this can be an awesome stopgap solution. But if you’re ready to install something a bit more permanent, might I suggest one of these options?

Fireplaces

OK, OK. These last three are really the cherry on top of the remodeling sundae, if you catch my drift. But if you are building or remodeling, I love this configuration of a TV wall – with a stove fireplace next to it. It warms up the room quickly so we use it mostly on the chilly nights and that ambiance, obviously, is quite the mood boost during what we call “the long great dark” up here. This type of fireplace can add a lot of charm and history back into a fresher, more modern space – highly recommend.

Saunas

Very jealous: we installed a custom sauna in the River House, which is currently being used 5 nights a week. (Ken and Katie watch Friday Night Lights through the glass on an iPad. Again, very jealous.) But when it comes to sauna, there are some fantastic readymade options out there that can be slotted straight into any in-progress project. Is it a little, well, extra, for lack of a better word? Yes. But if you love to sauna, it can be a worthwhile investment.

Hot Tubs

Once you’re finished with the inside of the house, it’s time to treat yourself to a nice, long soak….preferably in a beautifully crafted hot tub that complements your beautiful landscaping. (Can we all just give it up for Bowser? Her home transformation has been extraordinary to watch.) No matter your aesthetic, there’s a hot tub for you on sale now at Wayfair…and trust me, I know you deserve it.

The reno slog can be unending, challenging, and frustrating. (I know this firsthand.) But it doesn’t have to be debilitatingly expensive! Hoping this guide can help you save a little (or a lot) of moolah this Cyber Monday. Any other tips to share? We’re all ears. xx
